WHO INVENTED COMPUTERS ?
Could one imagine what the world would be like today without computers? For one, I would not be typing this paper right now. Computers were actually developed in early history. The first major use for a computer in the U.S. was during the1890 census. Two men, Herman Hollerith and James Powers, developed a newpunched-card system that could automatically read information on cards withouthuman intervention (Chaney 52). This caused many other people to developcomputers for various tasks. Each new computer helped to perform a different function and make it easier. Eventually IBM made a computer that could performvarious tasks such as: figure out equations, store data, and draw graphics(Chaney 53). From there the computer industry exploded. Now computers havechanged many aspects of life. Computers have had a major effect upon business.
HOW IMPORTANT ARE COMPUTERS IN OUR LIFE ?
It is now absolutely must for our daily life. Depending on which country one lives in, computers are now almost an essential household need. The primary reason being inforamtion gathering. Most people either keep their personal records or do some office work in home or required for the kids or for some daily informations in the net or being in touch with friends all over the world.
WHAT ARE THE BAD EFFECTS OF USING A COMPUTER ?
There are quite a few negative effects of using a computer. One of the prime ill effects of using a computer is the radiations emitted from the computer monitor. As we spend more and more time for our working hours on the computer, we are bound to suffer from severe backaches and other pains that are caused due to lack of regular movements. Constant usage of computers also brings about brain damage.Games and web-sites with obscene content have immense effects on small children which turn them into computer addicts. Anti-Social elements like terrorist use computers for unlawful purposes. Hacking into e-mail accounts and personal computers and accessing and using personal information are also on a rise because of computers. Now days we have become too dependent on machines for each and everything which is also a huge cause of concern. Social effects of using a computer includes reduced literacy levels because of the over reliance on computer publishing and editing. Also, spending too much time in front of the computer reduces the amount of time spent on outdoor activities, as well as social engagements, which are all important for a healthy lifestyle.
HOW DO WE OPERATE COMPUTERS ?
A computer is a machine which manipulates data according to a list of instructions which makes it an ideal example of a data processing system.Computers take numerous physical forms. The first devices that resemble modern computers date to the mid-20th century (around 1940 - 1941), although the computer concept and various machines similar to computers existed prior. Early electronic computers were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers. [1] Modern computers are based on comparatively tiny integrated circuits and are millions to billions of times more capable while occupying a fraction of the space. [2] Today, simple computers may be made small enough to fit into a wrist watch and be powered from a watch battery. Personal computers in various forms are icons of the information age and are what most people think of as "a computer". However, the most common form of computer in use today is by far the embedded computer. Embedded computers are small, simple devices that are often used to control other devices — for example, they may be found in machines ranging from fighter aircraft to industrial robots, digital cameras, and even children's toys. The ability to store and execute lists of instructions called programs makes computers extremely versatile and distinguishes them from calculators. The Church – Turing thesis is a mathematical statement of this versatility: Any computer with a certain minimum capability is, in principle, capable of performing the same tasks that any other computer can perform. Therefore, computers with capability and complexity ranging from that of a personal digital assistant to a supercomputer are all able to perform the same computational tasks given enough time and storage capacity.
